We are lucky to call such a beautiful place home. Here in South Africa, not only is nature preserved and on display, our care for the land is rewarded every year with the sweet and juicy stone fruit we harvest each summer which starts here in December and ends in March.
While the USA enjoys cooler winter months, south of the equator in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re harvesting our fruit from our orchards and enjoying time working in the great outdoors.
On the sunny days from December to March we experience Mediterranean-like weather which allows for absolute optimal growing conditions for our sweet plums and stone fruit. As the nights cool, the sugar content develops in the fruit while sunlight in the daytime provides time for the fruit’s natural sugars to mature to perfection.
The quality of South African plums speak for themselves since plums are the country’s largest export crop! We are proud to provide fresh fruit from our place on the globe while other countries experience cold weather and simply aren’t able to produce the sweet and nutritious fruit. People love our plums so much, we predict we’ll send 10 percent more plums to other countries, including the USA, in 2025.
Plums from South Africa haven’t always been available in the USA during the winter months. In fact, we’ve only shipped our prized fruit from South Africa to America for four years! Since we started, South Africa plums have been a highly demanded product during the winter months and we like to think that while Americans are chilly, deep down you are seeking warmth and we’re happy to send our sunny fruit directly to you!
Our plums arrive on the east coast of the USA in January after a nice cruise across the Atlantic Ocean. These morsels of joy are available through March and into April, just in time for a fruitful spring.
You can find our fruit in grocery stores all along the east coast and into the southeastern United States. If you aren’t able to find our exceptional plums, tell your produce manager or customer service at your local grocer and let them know you’d like to try it!
